Your nutrition affects your baby, so finding a good diet during pregnancy is important. Paleo Diet involves eating only what was available to humans during the Paleolithic era. It's believed that naturally available foods are better matched our genetics and body.

In general, following Paleo recipes means you will have to cut out stuff like dairy, grains, beans, legumes, sugar, potatoes, salt and etc. You will instead eat stuff like grass-fed meat, fish & sea foods, fresh veggies % fruits, nuts & seeds. What does it mean for woman with pregnancy?

Protein

Paleo diet is high in protein so any pregnant women should be able to meet 100 g recommendation of protein by American Pregnancy Association. However, experts warn that high protein intake is not good for pregnancy due to changes in liver. Consult a nutritionist for a proper level of protein intake.

Calcium

According to American Pregnancy Association, pregnant woman should consume about 1,000 mg of calcium per day. With dairy out of the way, this could be an issue. You would need to eat more calcium-rich vegetables and consider taking supplement.


Energy level

Keeping a high energy level is important when you are pregnant. However a plant-based diet like Paleo will reduce your calorie intake by nature. So consult your doctor for calorie recommendation.
